Grypholus
(GRIH-fuh-lis)
Gryffolus is a humanoid species bearing griffon like traits. A single member of this species is called a Gryph, while the plural is Gryphs.
Mannerisms
Gryphs are typically very playful creatures, and often seek their own entertainment rather than the good of others. As such, they are usually stereotyped as bad partners or friends, although they can be rather loyal if they see you as worthy of their company.
Gryphs are also a very clean species, and spend a lot of time preening their feathers and cleaning their fur.
Lifestyle
Tribes of Gryphs are not uncommon, though they are usually smaller, more tightly knit communities. These groups typically consist of a few families living together that do not breed with each other. When a Gryph matures, they can choose to leave the tribe to find a partner to start its own community if they desire, or can join an already existing tribe with their new mate.
While these groups exist, it is usually more common for Gryphs to live on their own or with one or two other Gryphs, or possibly even members of other species if they see fit. On their own, Gryphs are free to do as they please without hindrance (which more often than not includes screwing around and doing nothing productive, which is why they are usually seen as irresponsible or unreliable by other species).
Anatomy
Being a humanoid species, Gryphs have the same basic structure as humans do (upright walkers, similar appendages, etc.), but also bear features of feline and avian species. Rather than a mouth, Gryphs have beaks, which vary in shape and size from person to person. In addition to this, hair is covered in a layer of feathers. Male 'hair feathers' consists of larger, more prominent feathers, while females have finer, more flexible feathers which more closely resemble human hair. The scalps of both sexes are covered in a fine layer of human-like hair.
Gryhps also have wings, which are either attached on the shoulder blades or take the place of the arms. These wings are very large, and the feathers are the same color as their hair feathers. There is a more uncommon 'flightless' version of Gryphs, that are without wings, or have wings that are incapable of lifting them off of the ground.
The hands of Gryphs are replaced by talons.
The lower half of the body, instead of being bird-like, is feline in nature. Gryphs commonly have cat-like tails, though these can rarely be replaced by large tail feathers. The legs of these creatures are similar to those of cats, covered in fur and ending in paws. The color of the fur on their legs vary in color and patterns, and can have any pattern or color found in any feline species (big cats, domestic cats, etc.).
